Simulation and analysis of assembly processes considering compliant, non-ideal parts and tooling variations

چکیده
Variations in parts and tooling are a major problem in automobile body assembly processes. Those discrepancies adversely affect body assembly quality, functionality, cost and time-to-market. Variation simulation analysis has been used in the design stage to predict such uncertainties, but variation analysis based on rigid body assumptions usually yields over-estimates of the assembly variations. This paper presents a new numerical simulation method for the assembly process incorporating compliant non-ideal parts. This method considers the interaction and interference between compliant parts due to part variation, assembly tooling variation, welding distortion, and spring back effects. A butt-to-butt joint assembly example is used to illustrate the effects of various variation causes. A three-parts assembly example examines the assembly and welding sequences. Results from these two examples demonstrate that the proposed method is theoretically sound and practically useful. 2001 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.

متن کاملProduct and Process Tolerance Allocation in Multistation Compliant Assembly Using Analytical Target Cascading
Tolerance allocation is the process of determining allowable dimensional variations in products (parts and subassemblies) and processes (fixtures and tools) in order to meet final assembly quality and cost targets. Traditionally, tolerance allocation is conducted by solving a single optimization problem. This “all-in-one” (AIO) approach may not be desirable or applicable for various reasons: th...
متن کاملProduct Tolerance Allocation in Compliant Multistation Assembly through Variation Propagation and Analytical Target Cascading
Compliant sheet metal assembly is a hierarchical manufacturing process that plays a significant role in automotive product development. Parts are joined in different stations to form the final product (e.g., the vehicle body structure). Dimensional variation is a product attribute of major importance that characterizes quality, and is mainly affected by the variability of parts, fixtures, and j...
متن کاملError Recovery by the Use of Sensory Feedback and Reference Measurements for Robotic Assembly
Industrial robots need instrument or parts transport to do which requires coordinate to show the robot’s instrument, parts and body. When investigating the robot location, we are usually interested in measuring its location relative to a reference coordinate system. In this system it is attempted to make the assemble direction smaller by designing the sensor board and making use of an instrumen...
